Hwayeon Ryu, associate professor of mathematics, presented and co-organized a special session at the 2024 Society for Mathematical Biology conference held June 30-July 5, 2024 in Seoul, South Korea.
Hwayeon Ryu, associate professor of mathematics, attended the 2024 Joint annual meeting of The Korean Society for Mathematical Biology and The Society for Mathematical Biology held June 30-July 5, 2024, in Seoul, South Korea.
At the conference, Ryu presented her current work, “Mathematical Modeling of Immune Response to SARS-CoV-2,” as an invited speaker to a session entitled “In-host Modeling of SARS-CoV-2 and Immune Dynamics”. She discussed a mathematical model for immune dynamics of COVID-19 to investigate the underlying mechanisms for disease severity.
In addition, Ryu co-organized a special session on “Mathematical Modeling on Virus, Bacteria, or Infection” in which five invited speakers presented a variety of biological questions using mathematical models to understand complex system dynamics. The goal was to illustrate significant progress with research projects to foster innovation in the application of mathematical, statistical and computational methods in the resolution of problems in mathematical biology.
