8 A.M. UPDATE to 1L STUDENTS on AUGUST 8:

As you know by now, the university and law school are closed. All orientation sessions and activities planned for today are cancelled. We will be working in the coming days to reschedule the various sessions and activities, including the cookout and “getting to know each other,” for another time during the August term. We appreciate your flexibility and will communicate changes as soon as we have them, most likely early next week.

In the meantime please be safe today.

Good evening, Students and Colleagues,

After evaluating the risks tomorrow brought on by the remnants of Hurricane Debby, we have made the decision to either reschedule or conduct remotely all Thursday orientation sessions. There will be no in-person sessions tomorrow. While the forecast for Greensboro seems to pose fewer risks than some locations, we understand that many of you, including some of our presenters, are driving from areas with uncertain or higher predicted risks of flooding. We are also aware that cancellations in child care and other services are affecting many of you.

The law school will remain open unless the university decides to close. The building and library will operate on a normal schedule, and faculty and staff will report to work, with the exception of those living in areas of greater risk.

Below is a summary of how tomorrow’s sessions will be handled, and we will provide updates as we have them.

Civil Discourse session: This will be rescheduled to a later date within the August term
Inclusive Excellence: Students will have another Inclusive Excellence session during the August term (already scheduled for August 15)
Wellness & Well-being: We will keep this as a Zoom session scheduled for 3:00 p.m. We will confirm with the presenters tomorrow and send an update.

Please let me know what questions you may have – stay safe!
