Celebrating exceptional student leaders: New Student Orientation 2024

New Student Orientation thrives thanks to the remarkable contributions of our student leaders. These dedicated individuals volunteer their time to ensure a welcoming, informative and engaging experience for first-year and transfer students.

New Student Orientation thrives thanks to the remarkable contributions of Elon student leaders. These dedicated individuals volunteer their time to ensure a welcoming, informative and engaging experience for first-year and transfer students. The success of New Student Orientation — achieving goals such as connecting with peers, discovering Elon traditions and understanding university procedures — would not be possible without their efforts. Our leadership team includes orientation leaders, team leads, student coordinators and orientation specialists.

Student coordinators: The heart of orientation

Student coordinators — Kelsi Sheren, Owen Bramanti and Sarah Rothacker —have worked tirelessly throughout the year and summer to organize and refine the orientation program, with a specific focus on the Team Lead and Orientation Leader experience. In the fall, they assist in hiring and training Team Leads and Orientation Leaders, mentor the student staff and collaborate with professional staff to develop training and orientation materials and manuals. Their creativity is evident in the ice-breakers and engaging content presented during orientation training. You might even spot them on our TikTok channel, showcasing campus and introducing staff. Their hard work, passion and dedication have been instrumental in preparing our team for a successful orientation.

Team leads: Energizing Move-In Day

The dynamic energy seen during the early mornings of orientation is driven by our Team Leads (TLs). These student leaders lead an area on move-in day and work closely with Orientation Leaders and professional staff to ensure a smooth and effective process. Starting their training in the spring and then returning two weeks before new students arrive to continue their training, TLs guide the Orientation Leaders and play a key role in fostering a welcoming environment. They’ve dedicated their time and energy to build their leadership and mentorship skills. Their efforts ensure that the enthusiasm and support for new students and families are consistently high throughout the orientation program.

Orientation Leaders: Welcoming new students

Elon Orientation Leaders are the face of orientation. Alongside Elon 1010 Peer Educators and Resident Assistants, the Orientation Leaders serve as one of the first peer mentors new students encounter. With 96 enthusiastic orientation leaders on our team, they bring energy, knowledge, community building and facilitation skills and valuable social and educational experiences to the program. Their role is crucial in helping new students transition smoothly and feel at home at Elon. Their dedication puts the planning of our office into action and builds a solid foundation for our new students.

Orientation Specialists: Crafting the experience

Behind the scenes, Orientation Specialists — Alex Hernan Deese, Meredith Peck and Ugochi Okonkwo — work diligently to prepare all the necessary materials for orientation. Starting their roles in August, they ensure that new students and families receive well-organized and informative packets as they arrive on campus.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all our student leaders for their exceptional contributions to New Student Orientation 2024. Your hard work and enthusiasm make this transition period memorable and impactful for our new community members.
