As we move into the third week of classes, tests, papers and projects become an important focus. Be sure to check your syllabi for upcoming deadlines and put the dates in your calendar so you can plan ahead. And here are the “Phoenix Five” tips and events for this week to add to your calendar as well:
Find Organizations and Events at Elon – PhoenixCONNECT
Organization Fair may be in the past, but it’s not too late to get connected to Elon organizations and activities. Find upcoming events to attend and organizations to join at your 24/7 resource: PhoenixCONNECT.
Election Events this Week
There are two Election 2024 events on Tuesday this week. In addition, make sure you’ve got your plan in place to register to vote this fall. Visit the Elon Votes! website for more information.
North Carolina Trusted Elections Tour
Tuesday, Sept. 10, 6 – 7:30 p.m., East Neighborhood Commons, Forum (102)
The North Carolina Network for Fair, Safe, & Secure Elections hosts the Trusted Elections Tour, a grassroots project by The Carter Center. This tour includes 27 town halls across the state, offering information on the electoral process to build trust and strengthen civil discourse. Each 90-minute town hall features cybersecurity experts, election officials and attorneys from both sides to address concerns about voting machines, explain the secure voting process and discuss how legal challenges are managed. The event is hosted at Elon by the Council on Civic Engagement.
Active Citizen Series: Presidential Debate Watch
Tuesday, Sept.10, 9 p.m., Moseley Center (first floor)
Members of the Elon University community will gather to watch the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The goal of this event is to help educate students about the policies and beliefs of the two presidential nominees. Sponsored by the Kernodle Center for Civic Life, Elon Votes!, Council on Civic Engagement, Elon Political Engagement Work Group and Phoenix Policy Institute.
Green Tara Sand Mandala
Wednesday, Sept. 11 – Friday, Sept. 13., Sacred Space, Numen Lumen Pavilion
Tibetan Buddhist monk Geshe Palden Sangpo will construct a Green Tara Sand Mandala for three days for healing and peace. Viewers are encouraged to stop by and see its progress frequently. An opening ceremony will begin the process at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 11, and a closing ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, in which the mandala is deconstructed and the sand is shared with the community and the earth. All are welcome.

- Volleyball vs. Norfolk State, Tuesday, Sept. 10, 6 p.m., Schar Center
- Women’s Tennis hosts the Jimmy Powell Invitational, Sept. 13-14

Register Now for the 2024 Intersect Conference
Friday, Oct. 4, Moseley Student Center
The Center for Leadership, and the Center for Race, Ethnicity & Diversity Education (CREDE) are excited to invite you to the 2024 Intersect Conference on Friday, Oct. 4. Intersect provides a look at the disciplines of diversity, leadership and the cross-sections of the two. Participants engage in dialogue and reflection through keynote speakers and educational sessions. Registration is now open and closes on Monday, Sept. 16.
