Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan has bestowed Professor Henry Gabriel with its Wenlan Scholar Chair Professorship in International Law.
Elon Law Professor Henry Gabriel has been awarded the Wenlan Scholar Chair Professorship in International Law by Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan, China.
The Wenlan Scholar Chair is a three-year chaired professorship.
Zhongnan University of Economics and Law awards its honor to internationally recognized scholars with a high level of achievement in their fields who are also full-time faculty at internationally recognized institutions outside China.
It is one of the highest levels of recognition of scholarly and professional achievement granted by the institution, one of the top universities in China to specialize in finance, economic and law.
A widely recognized expert in commercial law, Gabriel’s duties include two visits a year to the university where he will give a public lecture, conduct a series of lectures for students, and advise graduate students.
About Professor Henry Gabriel
Henry Gabriel has spent the last three decades actively engaged in the development of domestic and international law. Appointed by successive administrations, for over 20 years he has been a United States Delegate to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
He is now serving his fourth term on the Governing Council of UNIDROIT (International Institute for the Unification of Private Law) in Rome.
The author of ten books and over 80 law review articles and book chapters, Gabriel has twice been a Distinguished Fulbright Professor, first in Portugal and then in Italy. He is an elected and life member of the American Law Institute and a Fellow of the European Law Institute.
Gabriel has been counsel in more than 50 federal appeals in the Supreme Court of the United States and the United States Courts of Appeal.
