Elon’s Vital Signs a capella group receives positive reviews from national review board

The Recorded A Cappella Review Board praised the group for their standout soloist, well-crafted singles, and their tuning and blend.

Vital Signs, Elon University’s critically acclaimed all-gender a cappella group, has received outstanding reviews from the Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB).

Known for their innovative takes on popular hits and unique blend of voices, Vital Signs continues to impress the a cappella community with their distinct sound, strong soloists and cohesive arrangements. In recent reviews, RARB critics highlighted Vital Signs’ impressive execution, describing their work as both energetic and artistically polished. This recognition comes as a testament to the group’s commitment to high musical standards and their ability to connect with audiences through bold, fresh interpretations.

A standout review by Stephen Lanza praised the group’s track “Boomerang,” noting how the arrangement by Prabh Saini “centers around the bassline and percussion groove,” creating an infectious rhythm that anchors the entire piece. Maecy Bischoff’s “raw power” on lead vocals was singled out as an essential element that sets the tone for the rest of the EP. Similarly, in “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” Campy Rodriguez’s solo captivated listeners with a thrilling falsetto that Lanza described as “perfect as the focal point of the piece.” Each arrangement is meticulously crafted, allowing individual voices to shine while maintaining a seamless blend.

In her review of “Cruel Summer,” Kimberly Raschka Sailor praised the production quality and Jaid Green’s lead vocal performance, calling it “dazzling” and highlighting her “flexibility in register and octave work.” The cover received a high rating for its technical excellence and overall entertainment value, with Sailor commending the track’s “solid technical proficiency” and “genuinely satisfying” execution. The group’s work, expertly produced by Liquid 5th, showcases their refined sound and underscores their commitment to a professional-caliber audio experience.

Vital Signs, founded in 2011 at Elon University, is an all-gender a cappella group dedicated to musical innovation and community engagement. Known for their inclusive approach and electric performances, the group has competed in ICCAs and received praise for their intricate arrangements and vocal prowess.
