Elon highlighted on FOX 8 WGHP for commitment to student mental health

Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Jana Lynn Patterson recently spoke with WGHP FOX 8 about Elon's commitment to student mental health wellness.

In a recent “Buckley Report” on FOX 8 WGHP, the local FOX television affiliate in High Point, North Carolina, Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Jana Lynn Patterson spoke about Elon’s approach to student mental health.

In addition to providing context about the national issue of mental health on college campuses, Patterson noted that Elon and universities across the country are not in a “crisis.” She highlighted Elon’s 24/7 crisis line through Timely Care and noted that Elon is on the forefront of the issue.

““I don’t think we’re at a crisis level because I think most colleges and universities are managing it well. Promoting positive mental health is not the sole responsibility of the University Counseling Center. It’s a university-wide obligation and initiative,” Patterson told WGHP’s Bob Buckley. “Twenty years ago, a student wouldn’t necessarily disclose a mental health condition to a faculty or staff member. Our students would do that quite regularly now because they trust their faculty members, and they want to engage with their faculty members around that.”
