Kim Shively, associate professor of performing arts, and David McGraw, associate professor of arts administration were recently in The Burlington-Times News, Yes! Weekly, American Theatre Magazine, the High Point Enterprise and WXII for co-founding Piedmont Shakespeare Company.
Shively and McGraw founded the theatre company with Carl Forsman, a professor at the School of Drama at UNC School of the Arts. Piedmont Shakespeare Company will stage original productions of Shakespeare’s plays at outdoor venues, starting in summer 2025. The productions will be free for audiences in an effort to make Shakespeare’s work more accessible.
“I can think of no better catalyst for community connection than the arts,” Shively told Yes! Weekly. “A fundamental part of Piedmont Shakespeare’s mission is to create a vibrant community atmosphere at each performance, providing free access to high-quality theatre and fostering meaningful connections between local non-profits and the audience, promoting community involvement and support.
