Elon University students are back on campus and studying across the world for the three-week Winter Term.
Winter Term 2025 is now underway at Elon University with students studying on campus, across the United States and in 33 countries spanning six continents.
During Winter Term, most students take a single course, meeting daily with faculty and their classmates. Winter Term typically includes both core courses and those with more creative or unique topics. Students also use this opportunity to study abroad and participate in Study USA programs. Elon is consistently recognized for its commitment to providing 100% access to global education.
“It’s fantastic to see that Elon’s Winter Term study away programs are thriving, offering students and faculty alike invaluable global experiences,” said Nick Gozik, dean of global education. “The variety of academic and cultural opportunities is immense, enriching their education in ways that go beyond the classroom. From nursing students traveling to Cuba for the first time to others exploring business practices in places like East Asia, the breadth of these programs truly highlights the global perspective that Elon cultivates.”
Unique to Elon is the preparation students receive for their Winter Term programs. Most study abroad and Study USA courses require a one-credit course in the preceding fall semester, where students meet with their faculty members and classmates as they learn in advance about the locations and cultures they plan to visit. The classes allow professors to forge strong relationships with their students and give students an avenue to learn about each other prior to their immersion in new and dynamic places.
“What’s especially exciting is the long-lasting impact these experiences have on both students and faculty,” said Gozik. “Participants not only gain a deeper understanding of their fields of study but also of themselves and the cultures they engage with. The return from these programs provides the opportunity for reflection and growth, enriching their educational journeys and enhancing Elon’s academic community as a whole.
During Winter Term, students on campus can also participate in Burst the Bubble programs throughout the month. These free, noncredit sessions are created and led by students who have a talent, interest or skill they wish to share with their peers. Burst the Bubble programs are open to all students.
