Elon University welcomes newest health science graduate students

Elon University welcomed 86 new PA and DPT graduate students to campus on Jan. 6, 2025.

On Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, Elon University’s School of Health Sciences welcomed its newest cohort of graduate students to the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program and Physician Assistant (PA) Studies Program.

Elon received a competitive 3,408 applications across both programs and welcomed a total of 86 new DPT and PA students from 21 states and three countries. Of the 86 new graduate students, 16 undergraduate alumni have returned to advance their educational journey and rejoin Elon as double Phoenix’s.

Orientation, hosted in the newly renovated Gerald Francis Center, packed in a full day of information and introductions to faculty, staff and campus resources before students dive into the semester. Unique aspects of Elon’s health science education include the anatomical gift program and inter-professional simulation center for optimal student learning and engaged experiences.

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Class of 2027

The Doctor of Physical Therapy is a three-year program that emphasizes a patient-centered approach to the profession. The DPT class of 2027 is made up of 48 new students eager to begin theory and clinical education. The average cohort GPA is 3.52 and the average GRE score is 149.

Elon’s DPT program began in 1996 as a partnership with the Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center and enrolled its first class in 1998 as a master’s program. Physician Assistant Studies Class of 2027

The Elon Physician Assistant Studies Program (PA) embraces the overall mission of the university and seeks to fulfill the departmental vision of “Learning. Caring. Serving. Leading.” This new cohort includes 38 students from 13 states, some as far as California, Texas and Washington. This class has an average GPA of 3.7 and 8,211 hours in health care experience.

The Elon Physician Assistant Studies Program is ARC-PA accredited and integrates didactic and clinical education over 24 months. The program was first accredited in September of 2012. Learn more about the Elon PA program.
