The Elon Performance Fair on Young Commons showcased the talents of student musicians, including Twisted Measure, Martina Barnett, Sweet Signatures and James Pieper. Members of the campus community took advantage of the spring weather to enjoy the music, toss frisbees and sample free food. There was also a moonbounce and the opportunity to win free prizes.
The Multicultural Gala, hosted by the Multicultural Student Council, featured artifacts, pottery, videos, food and more from around the world, including Greece, Mexico, India, Nigeria, Japan and Australia. Offices in Moseley Center each hosted displays for a particular country or region and visitors could vote on their favorite display. Students participating in the vote were eligible to win gift certificates to ethnic restaurants in the local community.
Sophomore Carroll Martin, student program coordinator with the Multicultural Student Council, said the event came together in just four weeks.
“Originally, this started as a soul-food dinner, but several other groups on campus had already done that this year,” Martin said. “We wanted to promote the multicultural aspects of campus and involve a lot of different groups. I think everyone has had a good time working together to make this happen.”
Elon’s Celebrate!, a weeklong event highlighting student achievement in academics and the arts, concludes this weekend. On Friday night, Broadway songwriter Jason Robert Brown will host a master class at 7:30 p.m. in Yeager Recital Hall, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council will hold its spring Step Show at 8 p.m. in Alumni Gym. On Saturday, senior art thesis projects will be on display in the Isabella Cannon Room from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Black Box Theatre will host a festival of student-directed one-act plays at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, while the a capella group Chapter 6 will perform at 8 p.m. in McKinnon Hall.
