Summer work – Elon archives

Elon’s Archives and University Relations are launching a special project to scan historic photos and produce digital files. We hope to start this project the beginning of June 2006 and continue it for 10 weeks. The individual will be required to work 40 hours a week at a rate of $5.15 per hour. Naturally, the 40 hours a week requirement is flexible depending on prior commitments.

The temporary job will include the following duties: assist archives staff with the selection of photographs, scanning, file maintenance, documentation of processes, and other duties as needed. The software that will be used includes one or more of the following packages: Adobe Photoshop CS2, Portfolio (Apple), Photo Mechanic (Apple), MS Access, and MS Excel. The scope of this project is to create a database of 500-700 scanned historic images of Elon University from the decades, beginning in the early 1900s. This database will be used in Johnston Hall (Alumni Center) for our alumni to easily view historic images of the University.

It is strongly preferred, but not required, for the candidate to have basic technology skills (especially using Macs) and an eye for photography and photo manipulation. There will be a preference given to qualified Library Science students, but we will also strongly consider other individuals who are qualified and interested.

It is not necessary to send me a resume, but interviews will be conducted. If you are still interested in this temporary position and opportunity, please contact me at knash@elon.edu or 336.278.6681 for details regarding the next step in this process. The deadline for contacting me is Friday, May 12th.

Thanks again for your interest!
