Nelson, Grady, Schuette present at conference

Three Elon faculty members made presentations recently at the International Conference on Technology, Knowledge and Society at McGill University in Montreal June 9-10.

Tom Nelson, School of Communications, presented a paper titled “Turbocharging History; Technology Takes History into the Fastlane.” The paper is a critical assessment of GWF Hegel’s ideas and new technology.

Herb Schuette, associate professor of business administration and computing science, presented a paper titled “Design of Web Based Directories for Human Service: Potential for Community-Directed Self-Maintaining Systems.” The paper explores the use of Web based tools which are managed by a cooperative network.

Don Grady, School of Communications, served as monderator and presenter for a discussion on “Technology and Community.” The sessions considered the diversity of the technology community and identified areas of common ground.
