Journalism professors George Padgett and Tom Nelson presented research at the International Conference on Diversity in Organizations, Communities and Nations June 12-15 in New Orleans.
Padgett’s paper, “Media Gone Limp: Failure of U.S. Media’s Diversity Efforts,” contended that the failure of U.S media to reach parity in employment of people of color resulted in its failure to adequately report the impact of Katrina on New Orleans’ black population.
Nelson’s paper, titled “Diversity and Dialectic: Hegel Saw the Future,” addressed the views of German philosopher GFW Hegel maintaining that he saw clearly the tension that energizes the debate about diversity.
