Elon College professor selected for national honor

ELON COLLEGE – Jack Bernhardt of Durham who is sociology instructor at Elon College has been selected for inclusion in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 2000.”

Amanda Amato, a 1999 graduate of Elon and a former student of Bernhardt, nominated him for the honor. Only high school and college students, who have been cited for academic excellence in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” and “The National Dean’s List,” are invited to nominate one teacher from their entire academic experience.

“This is a quite an honor for me,” said Berndardt who has taught at Elon since 1995. He also has taught at Duke University, Durham Technical Community College, Rutgers and Kent State universities. He has been an instructor at the Duke Young Writers Camp at Duke University since 1988.

Berndardt has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in anthropology from Kent State University and a master’s degree in anthropology from Columbia University.
