ELON COLLEGE – Jack R. Lindley Sr. of Burlington received the Frank S. Holt Jr. Business Leadership Award during a special luncheon Feb. 25 at Elon College.
The award was established at the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon College to recognize a local citizen whose contributions to business and the community reflect the same progressive, visionary leadership exemplified by the award’s namesake. The late Frank S. Holt Jr. was president of Holt Manufacturing Co. and a civic leader.
Lindley has helped foster economic vitality and growth in his hometown through his association with Industrial Paper Products and as a financial consultant to private businesses. He also ran a property and casualty insurance business for 28 years and was one of the founders and developers of the Burlington Outlet Mall.
He is a 1956 graduate of the college with a degree in business administration. Three of his siblings attended Elon and his son, Jay, is a member of the Class of 1983.
Lindley currently serves on the college’s Board of Visitors. With his wife, he established the Jack R. and Dorothy C. Lindley Scholarship to help Alamance County students. Lindley Court, named in honor of his family, is located beside Alamance Building. One of the college’s championship tennis courts bears the family’s name. Recently, he and his wife named a group study room in Belk Library in honor of their families.
He is an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and is a trustee at Methodist College. Currently he serves on the board of directors of The Foundation Serving Alamance County and Alamance Community College Foundation as well as the boards of the Salvation Army, Elon Homes for Children, Alamance Eldercare and Alamance Arts Council. He also is a Mason and a Shriner.
Lindley has served in many capacities with the Alamance County Area Chamber of Commerce and was named director of the year in 1991. He also has been an active supporter of the United Way. Currently, he serves on the United Way board and executive committee.
He and his wife have three children and nine grandchildren.
