ELON COLLEGE – Rosalind Reichard, who stepped down Feb. 18 as dean of science and mathematics at Elon College, recently received an Elon Medallion for her service to the institution.
Reichard of Greensboro became vice president for academic affairs at Meredith College on Feb. 20.
The medallion is given to individuals who in some official capacity have rendered outstanding service to the college and are distinguished by the extraordinary length and quality of their service.
During her 16-year tenure at Elon, Reichard directed and supervised many programs, including the undergraduate research and Science Fellows programs, and the Glaxo Wellcome Women in Science Scholarship Program.
She also administered two National Endowment for the Humanities grants and helped the college secure a $2 million Kresge Foundation grant.
Reichard aided in the development of new programs in engineering, physical therapy and environmental studies. She also played a vital role in the completion of the Dalton L. Michael Sr. Science Center, a state-of-the-art science facility that opened in 1998.
Reichard earned her undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Binghamton. She received her master’s and doctoral degrees, both in mathematics, at Michigan State University. Her teaching career began in 1970 at Morehouse College in Atlanta. She has also taught mathematics at Greensboro College, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Bennett College and Guilford College.
