Naming celebration for new Elon health center, March 13

The new health and counseling center at Elon will be named the R.N. Ellington Center during a celebration at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 13 at the construction site on the north side of campus near Moseley Center. The event is part of Founders Week activities at Elon, celebrating the school’s establishment on March 11, 1889.

The $850,000 health facility is named in honor of Dr. Robert N. Ellington of Burlington, N.C., who has served as Elon’s college physician for 15 years. The center’s naming recognizes his years of service as well as a main gift Dr. Ellington and his wife Helen have made to the fund-raising campaign for the new building.

“Dr. Ellington has been one of Elon’s greatest friends and supporters,” says Leo M. Lambert, Elon president. “He genuinely cares about the health of each student and has been tireless in his efforts to provide them with the best medical attention. In addition, Bob can regularly be found at athletics events, concerts, convocations and a wide variety of student activities. He is a loyal member of our community and richly deserves this honor.”

The center will provide Elon students, faculty and staff with a wide range of medical and counseling services. It will offer five medical examination rooms, a sick/observation room, rooms for triage, medications, laboratory equipment and shot administration, five counseling rooms, a group conference room, a waiting room and staff office space.
