Woodrow Wilson fellow, Russian economists to discuss Cold War politics, March 28

David Shribman, Washington bureau chief for The Boston Globe and recipient of a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, will join two Moscow State Lomonosov University professors for “Perspectives on the Cold War,” an open forum at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 28 in the McEwen Communications Building on the Elon campus. The forum is sponsored by the Elon Center for Politics and Public Affairs, the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies and the School of Communications.

Shribman is assistant managing editor of The Boston Globe. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in journalism in 1995 for his coverage of Washington and the American political scene. He writes a nationally syndicated column titled “National Perspective,” and also writes a regular political column, “O Democracy,” for Fortune Magazine. He has covered national politics for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Washington Post.

Professors Valentina Guerassimenko and Svetlana Kadomtseva will offer Russian perspectives on the Cold War during the discussion. Guerassimenko and Kadomtseva have been members of Moscow State’s economics faculty for more than 20 years. Their visit to Elon is part of a research effort in the United States, funded by a World Bank initiative, designed to modernize the Russian university system curriculum. They will spend three weeks with political science and economics faculty members at Elon, learning about teaching methods and innovative course offerings.

The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship foundation, founded in 1973, encourages the flow of ideas between the academic and non-academic worlds. Visiting fellows participate in a wide range of formal and informal discussions with students and faculty, sharing their knowledge, insight and experience.
