An April display of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt on the Elon campus has been rescheduled for Sept. 20-23.
The new date is a result of the relocation of the NAMES Project national headquarters this spring from San Francisco to Atlanta. Because of the move, the group could not guarantee that locally significant panels would appear during the originally planned April 26-30 display at Elon.
“We are very excited about this change, because the fall date will allow more people to see the Quilt,” says Celeste Young, director of the leadership committee which is organizing the Elon display. “We will also be assured of having more local and regional panels in the display, which is very important to us.”
The Quilt, which also came to Elon in 1997, memorializes those who have died of AIDS. Over 500 panels from the Quilt, many representing local people who have been affected by AIDS, will be on display in the Koury Center.
