ELON COLLEGE, N.C. – Elon College has announced two academic appointments for the 2000-2001 academic year.
Nancy Midgette, William P. Story Professor and chair of Elon’s history department, has been appointed interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The college comprises the divisions of science and mathematics, social sciences and arts and humanities.
Russell Gill, currently dean of arts and humanities, has been named Maude Sharpe Powell Professor, the second such professorship supported by the Powell endowment at Elon. Gill will serve as faculty liaison to the president.
Midgette has been at Elon since 1986. She received the Daniels-Danieley Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1998, the highest faculty honor at Elon. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Carolina State University and a doctorate from the University of Georgia.
Gill has been at Elon since 1976. He received the Daniels-Danieley Award in 1986. He has a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary, and a master’s degree and doctorate from Harvard University.
