ELON COLLEGE – The athletic training program at Elon College recently was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, which is recognized by the American Medical Association.
Students who now graduate from the program can take the National Athletic Training Association’s examination for certification as an athletic trainer.
“The accreditation team was very impressed to give us an initial full five-year accreditation,” said Mike Calhoun, chair of the Department of Health Promotion, Leisure and Human Performance. “Our curriculum is solid, we have a well-supported program with four athletic trainers who teach in the program, and our facilities are excellent.”
Sixteen students will graduate May 22 from the program. At any given time, about 36 sophomore to senior level students are enrolled in the program.
