Heavy traffic expected Saturday due to Elon College’s graduation

ELON COLLEGE – With more than 7,000 people expected to attend commencement exercises at Elon College on Saturday, May 22, traffic in the area is expected to be heavy during most of the day.

The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. under the oaks in front of West Residence Hall on the college’s campus. Traffic will be at its heaviest from
8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Campus police will have about 34 officers directing traffic and manning intersections. The North Carolina Highway Patrol has been requested to assist with traffic on Interstate 85/40 and U.S. 70. A portion of Lebanon Avenue that is adjacent to the campus also will be closed on Saturday.
