Elon to host Festival Latino Oct. 6

Latino food, music and culture will be celebrated during Festival Latino, which will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6 in McKinnon Hall on the Elon campus. The festival, organized by Elon University and Centro La Comunidad, is free and open to the public.

An opening ceremony is scheduled for noon. Throughout the afternoon, exhibitions of Latino music and dance will offer a variety of entertainment. From 8 p.m.-midnight, the dance band Grupo El Vacilon will play in McKinnon Hall. Admission to the dance is $7.

Craft and food vendors will allow visitors to sample their products throughout the day. A variety of free children’s activities will be offered, including crafts, clowns, bicycle safety and a drawing for a free bicycle.

Parents can bring their children for inoculations at the community agency fair, which will include area health agencies. The N.C. Highway Patrol will also be available to check child car safety seats and replace those which do not meet statutory requirements.
