Elon College names new trustees to board

ELON COLLEGE – Three new members recently were elected to four-year terms on the Elon College Board of Trustees at its fall meeting held Oct. 12-13 on campus.

They are:

Thomas E. Chandler of Burlington, president of Chandler Concrete Co. and CCC Sand and Gravel of Rocky Mount. He and his wife, Lynn, currently are members of the Elon College Board of Visitors. Active in the Burlington community, he is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, the United Way and Boy Scouts of America. He is a graduate of Lynchburg College.

Feliciano S. “Chany” Sabates III of Cornelius, chief operating officer of InvenCom, a Charlotte-based business that develops and distributes innovative products for law enforcement and emergency service agencies. He is a 1992 graduate of Elon with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

The Rev. Ann Calvin “Cally” Rogers-Witte of Phoenix, conference minister of the Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ. A graduate of Mary Baldwin College, Yale Divinity School and the Pacific School of Religion, she is president of the Arizona Ecumenical Council and the New Mexico Conference of Churches. Her daughter, Mary Ann Rogers-Witte, is a 1999 Elon graduate.

Installed to the board as ex-officio members were Jean Copeland, president of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ and a member of the staff of Southampton High School in Cortland, Va.; and the Rev. Dr. Emmett Floyd, who is acting conference minister of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ. Floyd’s daughter, Karen Worst, is a 1983 Elon graduate and his grandson, Nathan Painter, currently is a student.
