Slovak economic advisor to visit Elon

Katarina Mathernova, special advisor to the deputy prime minister for economic affairs in the Slovak Republic, will visit Elon Oct. 29-Nov. 2 as a German Marshall Campus Fellow. She will speak to several classes and meet with faculty members during her visit.

Mathernova’s expertise includes economic and institutional transition and the reform of legal institutions in post-communist countries. In her current role, she advises the deputy prime minister on various policy issues. She has also led efforts to reform Slovakia’s corporate governance rules, licensing systems and dispute resolution systems.

Mathernova has experience in a variety of financial and legal positions. She has worked as legal counsel for the Europe and Central Asia division of the World Bank, and as senior associate in the corporate finance practice area division of Shearman and Sterling in London.
