The annual Homecoming parade, the unveiling of the new Phoenix mascot and a post-football game relay to the site of Rhodes Stadium, the new on-campus facility that is under construction, are some of the highlights of Elon’s Homecoming Reunion Weekend, Nov. 3-5.
Homecoming activities begin on Friday, Nov. 3, featuring a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium by the College Chorale and Camerata. The concert is open to the public.
Marching bands, student floats and antique cars will play a prominent role in the homecoming parade, which begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4 and can be viewed from Haggard Ave. and Williamson Ave. Marching bands from three area high schools, Williams, Western Alamance and Bartlett-Yancey, will join the parade, which will conclude at the Rhodes Stadium site.
The Elon Phoenix will play their final football game at Burlington Memorial Stadium, hosting Liberty University in a 2 p.m. contest. Fans will get their first glimpse of the new Phoenix mascot, which will be unveiled at halftime.
After the game, a relay by the Elon cross country team will carry the game ball from Memorial Stadium to the Rhodes Stadium construction site, where alumni and the public are invited for refreshments and a brief celebration.
Other Saturday events include a chaplain’s breakfast, Elon Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, an alumni awards brunch, and two alumni parties.
On Sunday, Nov. 5, deceased alumni will be remembered during an 11 a.m. memorial service at the Elon College Community Church. Homecoming activities conclude at 3 p.m. with a band reunion and concert by the Company Shops Band in Whitley Auditorium.
