Loung Ung to speak at Elon College

ELON COLLEGE – Loung Ung, a survivor of the civil war in Cambodia, will talk about efforts to ban land mines Wednesday, March 3 in McCrary Theatre in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center of the Arts. The 7:30 p.m. speech is free and open to the public.

Ung escaped to America from Cambodia at age 10 after her parents and two of her siblings were killed in the Khmer Rouge regime death camps. She ended up living in Vermont, where she attended college and began work as an advocate against domestic violence.

Ung is also an advocate of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977.
