An internationally acclaimed concert organist will present another recital on the new Casavant pipe organ in Whitley Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4.
Marilyn Keiser, professor of organ at Indiana University, will be joined by Mary Boone, flute and Anita Burroughs-Price, harp, showcasing the instrument’s beauty and sound. Keiser presented the dedicatory recital on the organ in October.
A gift by the J. Harold Smith family of Burlington, N.C., named the organ in honor of his sister, Alyse Smith Cooper, also of Burlington. Harold Smith is a former member of the Elon board of trustees and is a trustee emeritus.
The organ is part of a $1 million renovation project on Whitley which was completed during the spring of 2001. Produced by Casavant Brothers of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, the organ has more than 2,500 pipes, ranging from 6 inches to 32 feet in length. Once the installation was completed, three weeks were devoted to voicing and fine tuning the organ.
Tickets for the concert are free. For ticket information, contact the McCrary Theatre Box Office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
