The Peking Acrobats will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 12 in McCrary Theatre, located on the Elon University campus. Their appearance is part of the Anne Ellington Powell Master Artist Series, which brings internationally acclaimed artists in dance, drama and music to Elon.
The group of 26 gymnasts, jugglers, cyclists and tumblers from the People’s Republic of China is the largest of its kind, performing the 2,000-year-old folk art of acrobatics with live accompaniment from a traditional Chinese orchestra. Created in 1952, the company is directed and choreographed by Hai Ken Tsai, a third-generation Chinese acrobat.
The acrobats, who are hand-selected, frequently begin acrobatic training at an early age, often as young as 5 years old.
Tickets for the performance are $15, or free for those with valid Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
