Graduate lands role in Broadway production

Todd Horman, the first graduate of Elon’s music theatre program in 1994, has been cast in the Broadway production of “Urinetown-The Musical,” starring John Cullum.

Horman, who also performs in the show’s ensemble, will make his cast debut Friday, July 19. According to Catherine McNeela, chair of performing arts, Horman is the first graduate of the program to land a role in an on-Broadway production.

The winner of three Tony Awards, “Urinetown” is set in a large city in the midst of ecological disaster, where a depletion of the Earth’s water supply has led to a government enforced ban on private toilets. In “Urinetown,” a single corporation makes its profits by charging admission to every citizen simply to use the bathroom.

Horman has landed roles in a number of regional theatre productions since leaving Elon and going on to earn a master’s degree in music theatre. He was a cast member in the highly successful national tour of “Victor/Victoria,” starring Toni Tenille.
