Kate Colussy-Estes, who most recently worked at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, has been named assistant chaplain and director of religious life at Elon University.
Colussy-Estes was a chaplain intern for two years at Schreiner, where she had primary responsibility for campus ministry. At Elon, she will work closely with the Religious Life Council, coordinating the activities of nine religious life groups. She will organize a new ecumenical worship service that will be held at 5 p.m. each Sunday at the Elon College Community Church, and will work with under-represented and non-represented faith groups on campus.
“Kate’s previous campus ministry experience is a strong asset,” says Richard McBride, Elon’s chaplain. “Her ability to relate to students is outstanding, because she is closer to them in age. Also, Kate had important work experience in local government prior to seminary. Those years will help her connect with a variety of Elon students. We also look forward to having a woman’s perspective represented on our campus ministry team.”
A native of Atlanta, Colussy-Estes earned a bachelor’s degree from Eckerd College and master of divinity degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
