Shanghai Ballet presents “The White-Haired Girl”

Elon University will host the Shanghai Ballet’s presentation of “The White-Haired Girl” Monday, 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts on the Elon campus.

The Shanghai Ballet was organized in 1979, and performs traditional ballet pieces and ballet adaptations of folk traditions both in China and abroad. Adapted as a movie and also as an opera, “The White-Haired Girl” is the story of a young heroine who ran away from a wealthy landlord who wanted her as a concubine. She hid for many years in a cave, emerging only at night when local people saw her and believed that she was a spirit.

Tickets for the performance are $15, or free for those with valid Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
