Elon to host business ethics seminar January 11

Area business leaders will join Elon University faculty members for a discussion about ethics, values and leadership in the wake of the recent business scandals during an interactive forum from 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11. Titled “Responsible Business Leadership: Multiple Perspectives on Ethics, Values and Choices,” the forum is sponsored by the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University. Sessions will be held on campus in Whitley Auditorium and the Long building.

Participants will include:

  • Peter Berner, vice president of Dow West Virginia operations and former president of Dow Latin America and chairman of Dow Benelux, N.V.
  • Terry Gallagher, CEO of Corporate Governance Associates and former vice president of corporate governance at Pfizer, Inc.
  • Jeffrey Pugh, professor of religion, Elon University
  • David Noer, Frank S. Holt Jr. Professor of Business Leadership, Elon University
  • John Burbridge, dean of the Love School of Business.

Each participant will offer a brief perspective on the recent business scandals and the obligation of institutions like Elon to address ethical issues. Small group discussions will follow, with each group making recommendations for the Love School of Business to consider as it attempts to address these issues with students.
