Alfred P. Carlton, president of the American Bar Association (ABA), and William Ezzell, president of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), will be the featured panelists for a discussion about ethical and moral responsibilities in business at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon University campus. Sponsored by Elon’s Love School of Business, the panel discussion is titled “Professional Responsibility in Changing Times: The Views from the Accounting and Legal Professions.”
The panel will explore issues concerning professional responsibility in the accounting and legal professions, as well as potential federal and state legislation, possible regulatory action and the changing environment of corporate governance.
Carlton has had a long career in general corporate law with an emphasis on regulated industries, corporate and public finance and financial and nonprofit institutions. He became president of the ABA in August 2002. He earned a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Ezzell, also a UNC graduate, assumed leadership of the AICPA, one of the largest professional membership organizations in the United States, in October 2002. He has been active on many senior AICPA volunteer bodies, including the board of directors, the governing council and the strategic planning committee.
The forum will be moderated by David Noer, the Frank S. Holt, Jr. Professor of Business Leadership at Elon. Linda Poulson, assistant professor of accounting, will also serve as a panelist.
