Elon student earns award for video about his homeland

Laith Al-Majali, an Elon student from Jordan, has won a 2002 Aegis Award for a four-minute music video about his home nation that he produced for the university.

The Aegis Awards are a video industry competition for peer recognition of outstanding video productions and non-network TV commercials. “The Jordan Experience” was honored in the Promotional/Sales category for its outstanding production quality by a panel of judges representing industry professionals from around the United States.

Al-Majali brought Elon equipment home during the summer of 2002 to shoot and direct the video, which highlights the beauty of Jordan by examining the contrasts between its history and modernity. He is the recipient of the first King Hussein Scholarship at Elon.

“(The award) is a dream come true,” Al-Majali said. “This shows us that we can compete on an international level and be recognized. I thank all those who helped in creating this work.”

Al-Majali is also featured as the “talent of the month” in the February edition of On-Campus magazine, a leading youth publication in Jordan.
