élan will present music from its January tour of Vienna and Prague during a concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 17 in Whitley Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
Songs will include “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love,” “Embraceable You,” “Come Fly With Me” and other jazz standards.
élan will also perform a mini-tribute to the vocal ensemble The Swingle Singers, who will visit Elon next year. Ward Swingle made a name for himself and the group by taking pieces of cultivated music and arranging them for voices and performing them with a swing feel. As the group developed over the years, standard jazz tunes became part of their repertoire.
élan will perform jazz tunes arranged by Ward Swingle, including “Li’l Darlin'” and “Mac the Knife.”
The élan CD, “élan eclectique,” will be on sale at the concert. Normally $12 in the campus shop, the CDs are specially priced for the concert at $10, or $8 for Elon faculty, staff and students with valid ID.
