Atlantic Monthly correspondent Eric Schlosser will speak at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. The Liberal Arts Forum and General Studies program are sponsors for this event.
Schlosser’s lecture, titled “Reefer Madness: Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Black Market,” spotlights three thriving black market industries: marijuana, migrant labor, and pornography. Such underground industries, Schlosser claims, account for as much as 10 percent of the American economy. Although rarely discussed in newspapers, Schlosser tackles the subject with the same in-depth analysis that made his book, “Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All American Meal,” a bestseller.
