Poet Sonia Sanchez will speak at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 8 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. Her appearance, sponsored by the Liberal Arts Forum, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and Multicultural Student Council, is free and open to the public.
Sanchez explores women’s lives, the struggles and triumphs of people of color, and global and humanist themes in her writing. Described as “a lion in literature’s forest” by poet Maya Angelou, Sanchez is the author of 14 books, including “Shake Loose My Skin: New and Selected Poems”, and has received numerous awards, including the 1985 American Book award.
