United States Poet Laureate Billy Collins at Elon September 26

Billy Collins, U.S. Poet Laureate from 2001-2003, will speak and read selections from his poetry at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus.

Collins’ last three collections have broken sales records for poetry. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. Collins has published eight poetry collections including “The Trouble with Poetry & Other Poems.” He has received are fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. Collins is Distinguished Professor of English at Lehman College in New York, where he has taught for 30 years. Last year, he was named New York State Poet Laureate through 2006.

Collins’ appearance is sponsored by the Liberal Arts Forum and the English Department. Admission is by ticket only. Tickets are $12 or free to those with valid Elon identification.
