The Elon University community and the timeless beauty of the campus are the subject of an exquisite new photography book titled, ELON Under the Oaks. The book first went in late August and its publication is being celebrated as part of Homecoming Reunion Weekend, Sept. 16-18.
The high-quality, hard-cover edition includes 137 color photographs that chronicle an academic year at Elon, from move-in day and fall colors through the beauty of spring and Commencement. The book’s foreword, titled “Brushstrokes in Maroon and Gold,” is written by Elon President Leo M. Lambert.
Photographers Will and Deni McIntyre of Winston-Salem, N.C., began work on the book in spring 2004. They have a long history of association with Elon, and their fine photography has appeared regularly in the university’s award-winning publications for more than a decade.
The McIntyres present an intimate portrait of Elon’s historic buildings, lovely grounds, engaged faculty and students, and even the ubiquitous squirrels that scamper among the oaks.
“Will and Deni’s photographs elegantly capture the very special sense of place that is Elon,” Lambert says.
The McIntyres say their photographs will have meaning to all members of the Elon community, from alumni of all generations to new students and parents. “Our goal was to tell a story about Elon that is timeless,” says Will McIntyre.
The limited-edition printing is available through the Elon Campus Shop, located in Moseley Center. The book can also be ordered through a special Web site: www.elon.edu/elon_undertheoaks.
As a special Homecoming promotion, copies of the book signed by President Lambert and former presidents J. Fred Young and J. Earl Danieley will be available at Phoenix Phest, following the Sept. 17 football game.
