Jessie Moore Kapper and students publish chapter on service-learning

Jessie Moore Kapper, assistant professor of professional writing and rhetoric in the Department of English, and students in her spring 2005 Introduction to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) class recently published a chapter on service-learning.

Laura Clapp, an Elon alum, and Cindy Lefferts, a current Elon student, collaborated with Moore Kapper on the chapter, which traces students’ service-learning experiences in the course. The chapter also includes additional reflections from Elon students and alumni, Missy Schwandt, Melissa Taylor and Nikki Wasikowski. The chapter concludes with recommendations for faculty teaching applied linguistics courses with service-learning components, as well as tips for students enrolled in service-learning courses.

“TESOL in Context: Student Perspectives on Service-Learning,” appears in Learning the Language of Global Citizenship: Service-Learning in Applied Linguistics, edited by Adrian J. Wurr and Josef Hellebrandt. The collection is available from Anker Publishing.
