Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications, recently published op-ed pieces in the News & Observer (Raleigh) and in the Winston-Salem Journal.
Hatcher’s essay, “Our houses are way too big and our cars are way too fast,” appeared in the N&O on March 21. The piece addresses the energy consumption of very large houses, and the logic of manufacturing cars for the public that go faster than twice the legal speed limit. The second op-ed appeared March 24 in the Journal, where Hatcher began his journalism career. This essay addressed the value of good journalism. When practiced properly, “Journalism is a noble calling,” and acts in the public good, Hatcher wrote.
