Dining Services has implemented a preferential purchasing system that identifies local produce items and the area from which it originated. Dining Services places preference on food grown within our area, state and then region of the country, in that order. Conventional produce from around the world will still be available when an item is not in season locally so you can continue to enjoy all of nature’s bounty.
For example, the Acorn Coffee Shop is now purchasing alfalfa sprouts from Sunny Creek Farms located in Tryon, N.C. Sunny Creek is a family owned and operated farm in the western North Carolina foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sunny Creek Farms produces some of the best and most carefully grown sprouts in the Southeast.
