Student essays on Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum

In January 2003, Dr. Iris Chapman’s creative writing class visited the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum at Sedalia, N.C. Their assignment was “to write from the landmark,” producing a creative, non-fiction essay with the site as a focus point. The students also read Diane Silcox-Jarrett’s book, Charlotte Hawkins Brown: One Woman’s Dream, for inspiration. To read essays by students Julia Whicker and Becky Peterson, go to the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum Web site and scroll to the bottom of the page.
