Music students earns honors at regional competition

Three Elon students competed at the National Association of Teachers of Singing regional conference April 13-14 at the University of Maryland, College Park. Students from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., who qualified at the state level were eligible for the competition.

Freshman Alexa Wildish competed in the freshman women’s category after winning first place honors in North Carolina.

Tara Sissom, a senior music theatre major, won second place in the college women music theatre category.

Cary Mitchell, also a senior music theatre major, won first place honors in the college music theatre men category. Mitchell also performed during the prestigious honors recital, held April 14.

Katherine Thomas, a junior piano performance major, provided accompaniment during the performances.

Polly Cornelius, lecturer in music, traveled with the students and reports that they all represented Elon well.
