Hamill Memorial Scholarship established

John and Barbara Hamill of Baltimore have made a $25,000 gift to establish the Caitlin Elisabeth Hamill Memorial Scholarship at Elon. The scholarship will honor the memory of their daughter, Caitlin, a senior psychology major who passed away Jan. 5.

The Hamill Memorial Scholarship will provide financial assistance for a deserving student to study abroad. Financial need is a requirement to receive the scholarship. Caitlin Hamill studied abroad during her sophomore year, spending Winter Term learning about the impact of World War II’s ground war in England, Normandy, Prague and Berlin. Realizing the impact this experience had on their daughter, the Hamills established this scholarship in Caitlin’s memory to help provide the same experience for future Elon students.

Caitlin excelled academically and was recognized on the President’s List or Dean’s List five times. She was also a volunteer with CrossRoads crisis hotline.
