An open house at the new Arts West building, improvisational dance performances and a program about students' service-learning experiences highlighted Wednesday's CELEBRATE! week activities. Details...
CELEBRATE!, an annual event at Elon, includes seminars,
presentations, performances, recitals, art exhibitions, poetry, films and many
other examples of student work. Elon’s Student Undergraduate Research Forum,
SURF, was held yesterday, giving students in all majors a chance to

Highlights of Wednesday’s schedule included a reception at the new Arts West building at 406 W. Haggard Ave. Visitors had a chance to tour the facility, which opened in August, and the works of Elon art students, including paintings, photography, ceramics and fiber art, were on display.
Students from service-learning courses in a variety of disciplines made presentations focused on their service-learning projects. Participants interacted with students who have connected learning with practical experience, while making a difference in the lives of others.
A program titled “Amazing Dances Created on the Spot” featured the work of Elon dance students with dance improvisation. Students performed an hour of dance improvisation, showing the audience how choreographers use the tools of their trade to create their work. Another program featured dancers from an advanced modern technique class to demonstrate the various ways dance form can evolve.
Wednesday evening’s schedule includes a showcase of work by Elon documentary film students, the unveiling of the art and literary journal Colonnades, the student-directed production of “Julius Caesar,” and the Make-a-Wish concert, presented by the Resident Student Association.
