Mathew Gendle, assistant professor of psychology, has published an article appearing in the current issue of the journal Perception (vol. 36, issue 4). Entitled “Word-gustatory synesthesia: A case study”, the article provides a case-study report of an individual who experiences specific taste sensations when hearing or reading English words. Word-gustatory synesthesia is quite rare; and this work is one of only seven reports of this perceptual phenomenon in the scientific literature.
