Friday, May 18
Receptions for graduates and their families hosted by faculty in Elon College and the schools of Business, Communications and Education,        1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
• Arts and Humanities: Center for the Arts, Ward Gallery, Pardue Court and Love Terrace
• Science and Math: Scott Plaza/Fonville Fountain
• Social Science: Academic Village Amphitheater and Lawn
• Love School of Business: Chandler Fountain and Plaza
• School of Communications: McEwen Dining Hall Patio
• School of Education: Mooney Hall South Lawn

Baccalaureate, Alumni Gym, Koury Center,
3:00 p.m.
Graduates are invited to sit with their families for
Baccalaureate.

The address will be delivered by Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed,
national director of the Islamic Society of North
America’s Office of Interfaith and Community Alliances
in Washington, D.C. Syeed is the first director of the Office
of Interfaith and Community Alliances (IOICA). The IOICA
works to enhance positive relationships and understandings
between Muslim Americans, government agencies and
Congressional representatives.

Leaders for the Twenty-First Century: A Celebration
of Accomplishments

McCrary Theatre, Center for the Arts, 5:00 p.m.
Graduating Honors Fellows, North Carolina Teaching Fellows,
Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows, Business Fellows, Science
Fellows, Social Science Scholars, Arts and Humanities
Scholars, and Journalism and Communications Fellows will be
recognized at a pre-Commencement ceremony that showcases
their talents and accomplishments. A reception will follow.

Legacy Reception for Graduates and Their Alumni
Parents, Grandparents, or Siblings

Johnston Hall Alumni Center, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
If a parent, grandparent or sibling of a graduate is an
alumnus, an invitation will be mailed by the Office of Alumni
Relations. A continuous shuttle will run from Moseley Center
(Boney Fountain Entrance) to Johnston Hall from 5:15 to 7:15
p.m. Ample parking is also available on-site at Johnston Hall

Saturday, May 19

Continental Breakfast, Scott Plaza, 7:30
a.m.
The University faculty host graduating students and their
families at a continental breakfast around Fonville Fountain.

Graduates assemble in Jordan Gym, 8:15
a.m.
Graduating students must be in Jordan Gym promptly at 8:15
a.m. in caps and gowns. Your presence is required. If
you are late or improperly attired, you will not be permitted
to participate in the Commencement Exercises.

Faculty and staff will organize the line of march. Dean
George Troxler will send you detailed instructions regarding
your part in the commencement program.

Commencement Under the Oaks, 9:30 a.m.
 
Kerrii Anderson, a 1979 Elon alumna who was recently named
chief executive officer and president of Wendy’s
International, Inc., will deliver the commencement address.
Anderson joined Wendy’s in September 2000 as executive
vice president and chief financial officer, and was appointed
to the company’s board of directors in November 2000.
She has managed key areas of the corporation, including
strategic planning, human resources, supply chain,
information technology and Wendy’s bakery.

After graduation, there will be a reception hosted by
academic departments on Scott Plaza. Reception locations will
be posted in the pocket guide that is sent in late April to
graduates and their parents.

Rain location for Commencement is Alumni Gym in Koury
Center.

Tickets are not required for Commencement Under the Oaks.
You are welcome to bring as many people as you wish. However,
families may not reserve their seats until 7:00 a.m. on
Saturday. This gives our staff time to reserve seats for
graduates and faculty members, as well as time to clean and
dry off the chairs for your convenience.
